In its country-by-country index comparing the status of men and women, the World Economic Forum finds that Nordic countries remain highest on the equity scale. Laura Liswood discusses the findings of the Forum's annual report and its importance to women and girls.

Forbes 100 Most Powerful Women
For the fifth year, Laura Liswood has assisted Forbes in compiling its annual list of the world’s most powerful women. The list is comprised of women who are household names in their industries or regions—they run countries, big companies and influential nonprofits. German Chancellor Angela Merkel tops this year’s list for the 4th consecutive year, followed by Sheila Bair, Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Chairman, and Indra Nooyi, Chief Executive of PepsiCo. The rankings are based on influence, determined by visibility (by press mentions) and the size of the organization or country led by these women.

Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS)
On May 8, 2009, nine fellows from six countries completed The Center for Strategic & International Studies’ (CSIS) Abshire-Inamori Leadership Academy Fellowship. The fellowship exposes successful mid-career professionals to “today’s most pressing global policy dilemmas.” Laura Liswood was one of the experts and scholars who addressed the fellows during their program in Washington, D.C, where they learned about leadership, ethical decision-making, and global affairs. The Academy’s mission is to “promote a better understanding of the intellectual and moral constraints that bind decision-makers.”

There is a pressing need for gender diversity in the ranks of the finance sector's top management to achieve a more inclusive perspective; this could have prevented the recent downfall of our economy. According to Laura Liswood, it is not just women who can contribute to a more responsible and progressive financial system, but also the collaborative efforts of both women and men: "Ideally, it will be Lehman Brothers and Sisters."
